Twenty years ago this week, seventeen aid workers were found executed at their office in Muttur. Sixteen were Tamil, one was Muslim, and all worked for the French humanitarian organisation Action contre la Faim, having stayed behind in a town consumed by fighting to serve families displaced by war and still recovering from the tsunami. Fifteen lay face down in the compound, shot at point-blank range through the head and neck. Two more, who appear to have tried to flee, were found in a vehicle nearby. Two decades on, not a single person has been charged.

Sisu Seriya ready to transport examination candidates
The National Transport Commission has announced that Sisu Seriya transport services will operate for students sitting the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination tomorrow (09), as well as those sitting the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination, which begins on the 10th.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre has stated that relevant officials and necessary equipment have been deployed to all locations where students sitting the upcoming examinations could potentially face difficulties due to disasters.
The Sisu Seriya transport service has been arranged to operate as scheduled for students sitting the examinations.
LPL final takes place today
The final of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) cricket tournament will be played between the Galle Gallants and Jaffna Kings at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo tonight (08).
At the end of the league stage, the two teams had secured first and second places respectively in the points table, with Jaffna Kings finishing first and Galle Gallants second.
Jaffna Kings secured the first spot in the final after defeating Galle Gallants in a closely fought Qualifier 1.
However, Galle Gallants secured another opportunity to play in the final after defeating Colombo Kaps, who had advanced by winning the Eliminator, in Qualifier 2.
The match is scheduled to begin at 7.30 p.m.
International Cat Day celebrated today
International Cat Day is an annual global celebration observed on 8 August.
The day was established in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to raise awareness about the protection and welfare of cats, promote adoption and celebrate cats as companions.
The day was initiated by IFAW in 2002 to support both stray and domestic cats.
Special attention is given on this day to promoting education on cat health and humane treatment.
