The special discussion between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) is scheduled for today (Aug. 12) at 1.00 p.m.
The meeting is being held following an invitation extended by the President to the BASL to discuss the Government’s proposal to increase the retirement age of judges.
The BASL delegation is expected to include President Rajeev Amarasuriya, Secretary Nalin de Silva, Vice President President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsekularatne, members of the Management Committee and Executive Committee, as well as several former presidents of the association.
Around 03 months ago, the BASL wrote to the President requesting a discussion on the proposed constitutional amendment to extend the retirement age of Supreme Court and Court of Appeal judges.
The association subsequently submitted another letter outlining its position on the proposed amendment.
