President Anura Kumara Dissanayake marked the commencement of Phase II of the Anuradhapura North Water Supply Project today morning (July 10).The Phase II development is expected to provide clean and safe drinking water to around 67,000 families in the Padaviya, Kebithigollewa, Horowpothana and Kahatagasdigiliya Divisional Secretariat areas in the Anuradhapura District.
Addressing the gathering, President Dissanayake noted that the absence of access to safe drinking water has been identified as a major contributing factor to the spread of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) of unknown aetiology reported in these areas since the 1990s.
He stressed that ensuring access to safe water is closely linked with protecting the health, dignity and wellbeing of communities.
