International Left-Handers Day observed today
Today (Aug. 13) marks International Left-Handers Day.
The day aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by people who use their left hand in a predominantly right-handed world, while also highlighting their unique characteristics.
The day was first observed on Aug. 13, 1976, by Lefthanders International Inc., an organisation founded by Dean R. Campbell.
Approximately 10% of the world’s population is estimated to be left-handed.
The day also highlights the difficulties left-handed people face because many everyday tools and devices, including knives, scissors and computer mice, are primarily designed for right-handed users.
Several studies have suggested that left-handed people may demonstrate strengths in creative and artistic fields.
Several prominent leaders, scientists, and artists throughout history have also been left-handed.
