2026 A/L exam begins today

The 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination begins today (Aug. 10) and will continue until Sept. 05, the Department of Examinations announced.

A total of 372,310 candidates, including 264,496 school candidates and 107,814 private candidates, are scheduled to sit for this year’s examination at 2,532 examination centres across the island.

Commissioner General of Examinations – Indika Kumari Liyanage advised candidates to arrive at their examination centres at least one hour before the scheduled starting time.

The Department also reminded candidates that mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices and notes are strictly prohibited inside examination halls.

Liyanage urged candidates to comply with examination regulations and refrain from malpractice, noting that the results of many candidates had been withheld in previous years due to such misconduct.

She added that the Department has made arrangements to provide necessary facilities in the event of an emergency or disaster situation during the examination period.
