Dengue cases near 90,000
The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka is nearing the 90,000 mark.
According to the National Dengue Control Unit, the total number of cases reported so far stands at 89,395.
A total of 65 deaths have been reported to date.
More than half of the total cases reported during the past six months have been recorded in the Western Province, with 47,310 cases reported there.
This accounts for 52.92 per cent of the total.
At district level, Gampaha remains the worst-affected district, with the total number of cases reported there having surpassed 19,000 (19,007) as of yesterday.
The number of cases reported from Colombo District has risen to 17,725, while 6,341 cases have been reported from Kandy District, which has recorded the third-highest number of cases.
The highest number of cases this year was reported in July, when 29,973 cases were recorded.
