Galle Gallants clinch LPL title 

Galle Gallants won their maiden Lanka Premier League (LPL) title by defeating Jaffna Kings by five wickets in the 2026 LPL final.

The final was played yesterday (08) at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

Jaffna Kings, who had reached the final for the fifth time in the six LPL tournaments held so far, had to settle for the runners-up position for the first time.

Batting first, Jaffna Kings were bowled out for 123 in 19.1 overs.

For Galle Gallants, Charith Asalanka took three wickets for 20 runs, while Eshan Malinga claimed three wickets for 25 runs, delivering impressive bowling performances.

Chasing a target of 124, Galle Gallants comfortably reached 126 for five in 15.5 overs to secure victory.

Thomas Rogers scored 34, Dinura Kalupahana made 31, and captain Dasun Shanaka remained unbeaten on 20 to seal the victory.

Charith Asalanka was named Player of the Match in the final, while Eshan Malinga was awarded the Purple Cap as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets.
