Bell 412 helicopter deployed to monitor situation at Mahara Prison
The Sri Lanka Air Force says a Bell 412 helicopter and a drone have been deployed to monitor the unrest at Mahara Prison.
Unrest broke out at Mahara Prison this afternoon (01), leaving seven inmates injured and hospitalised. One of them subsequently died.
Police and the Police Special Task Force (STF) have been deployed to bring the situation under control, according to reports.
Meanwhile, relatives of inmates have gathered outside the prison, where some unrest has also reportedly occurred.
In view of the prevailing situation, the Air Force has deployed a Bell 412 helicopter and a drone to monitor the situation inside the prison and is continuing aerial surveillance of the premises.
