Police curfew imposed in Ragama

Police have announced that a curfew has been imposed in the Ragama Police Division with immediate effect until further notice.

Police said the measure was taken to bring the situation under control after a group of relatives of inmates and local residents caused unrest in the vicinity of the Mahara Prison following the disturbance at the prison.

One inmate was killed and six others were injured in the unrest at Mahara Prison this evening. The injured inmates have been admitted to the Ragama Teaching Hospital.
