Port City incident : Chinese embassy calls for comprehensive probe
The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka has urged the Sri Lankan Police to carry out a thorough inquiry and take all necessary measures to safeguard the personal safety, lawful rights and legitimate interests of Chinese nationals in Sri Lanka.
The embassy statement comes in the backdrop of last night’s (July 22) incident at Colombo Port City, involving two groups of Chinese nationals.
Noting that the embassy is closely monitoring the case, they have called on Sri Lankan authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation to establish the facts at the earliest opportunity.
“The Embassy reminds Chinese citizens in Sri Lanka to enhance their safety awareness, and in case of emergency, report to the police promptly and contact the Embassy for assistance,” the statement notes.
