SLTB employees hit by reduction in medical reimbursement
The maximum medical reimbursement available to employees of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has been reduced to Rs. 3,000.
According to SLTB sources, this decision by the Board’s management has caused significant hardship for employees suffering from chronic illnesses and other medical conditions.
Medical treatment and the provision of prescribed medicines for SLTB employees are carried out through the SLTB Medical Centre located at the National Transport Medical Institute branch in Nugegoda.
The facility provides medical consultations and medicines exclusively for SLTB employees, with the cost of treatment previously being fully reimbursed by the SLTB Head Office.
Meanwhile, SLTB employees have reportedly expressed strong dissatisfaction over the new measure, arguing that, given the current cost of medicines, a reimbursement limit of Rs. 3,000 offers little practical value.
