Gazette removing Vavuniya Mayor suspended by High Court

The High Court of Vavuniya has ordered the suspension of the Gazette notification issued by the Governor of the Northern Province removing Sundaralingam Kandipan from the office of Mayor of Vavuniya.

The order was made today (3 July) when the High Court considered a petition filed challenging the Governor’s decision.

Accordingly, the Court directed that the relevant Gazette notification be suspended until 15 July, according to M. A. Sumanthiran, who appeared on behalf of the petitioner.
