Zhongsing Chinese Supermarket fined Rs. 300,000

Zhongsing Supermarket (Pvt) Ltd, located on R.A. de Mel Mawatha in Colombo 03, was today (1) fined Rs. 300,000 by the Magistrate’s Court.

The penalty was imposed for violating the provisions and regulations of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act by engaging in practices that misled and deceived consumers.

The court also ordered the destruction of the items produced as case exhibits.

The ruling was delivered in a case filed before the Colombo No. 5 Magistrate’s Court by investigating officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority.

The charges against the supermarket included failing to display the prices of goods, not maintaining suppliers’ invoices or receipts, and offering products for sale without mandatory labelling information on the packaging, including the Maximum Retail Price (MRP), and the name and address of the manufacturer or importer.
