Unused Ditwah relief supplies found expired

A stock of undistributed essential relief items intended for people affected by Cyclone ‘Ditwah’ stored at the Udapalatha Divisional Secretariat in Gampola has been found expired and unfit for human consumption.

According to observations made by officials of the National Audit Office (NAO), 03 rooms within the Divisional Secretariat premises were found to contain large quantities of relief supplies, including dry rations, that had not been issued to beneficiaries.

Audit officials noted that a significant portion of the stored food items had already passed their expiry dates and were no longer fit for consumption.
