International Women’s Day: L&T Sets Example with Paid Menstrual Leave

This International Women’s Day, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has taken a groundbreaking step to support its female workforce by announcing a paid menstrual leave policy. Introduced by Chairman S.N. Subrahmanyan, the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to creating a workplace where women feel valued and empowered. 

The policy allows female employees to take one day of paid leave every month to address menstrual-related challenges. This thoughtful move is set to benefit around 5,000 women employees, highlighting L&T’s proactive approach to fostering a more inclusive and understanding work culture. 

While this announcement has been widely applauded, it also comes at a time when Subrahmanyan’s recent remarks on a 90-hour workweek stirred conversations. His comments, which sparked debates about work-life balance, included a lighthearted reference to “staring at your wife” and drew mixed reactions. L&T clarified that his statements were taken out of context and not intended as a directive. 

Amid the controversy, the menstrual leave policy stands out as a testament to L&T’s dedication to employee well-being and diversity. Speaking at the launch, Subrahmanyan emphasized the importance of supporting women in balancing their professional and personal lives, particularly by addressing their unique challenges.
