New Army Commander appointed 

Major General Nilantha Premaratne has been appointed as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.

He succeeds Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, who is retiring after completing his tenure as the 25th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.

Prior to his appointment, Lieutenant General Premaratne served as the Army’s Chief of Staff after assuming the post in June this year. 

A senior officer of the Sri Lanka Artillery, he has held several key command and staff appointments during his military career.
