Record surge in dengue cases; total exceeds 75,000

The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka so far this year has exceeded 75,000.

According to the National Dengue Control Unit, 51 deaths have been recorded due to dengue.

The highest number of cases continues to be reported from the Gampaha and Colombo districts.

Meanwhile, the National Dengue Control Unit said that a special dengue control programme is also being carried out today (18) across 11 districts.

Its Director, Dr Kapila Kannangara, said the programme is being implemented through 63 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) offices in the 11 districts.
