Committee to probe missing school textbook incident

Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Madhura Seneviratne has said that a departmental investigation committee has been appointed to investigate the incident where a stock of school textbooks had gone missing.

The Deputy Minister has further said that the police investigations are also underway.

Five suspects have already been arrested over the incident and remanded until Aug. 25.

Police have revealed that after the stock of textbooks was handed over for transportation on May 24, the first suspect had sold it to a location in the Alawwa area, while the owner of that location had subsequently sold the stock to a centre in Narammala.
The textbooks were later transported from there to Wattala, police said.

The consignment consisted of Tamil-language activity books and textbooks worth more than Rs. 800,000 for the third term of Grade One students.
