42 injured as Colombo–Badulla bus plunges into precipice

A Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus travelling from Colombo to Badulla veered off the road and plunged nearly 20 feet into a precipice near the Diyatalawa railway station early today (23), leaving 42 passengers injured.

The accident occurred at around 1.10 a.m., according to Police.

All injured passengers were admitted to the Diyatalawa Base Hospital.

Acting Medical Superintendent Dr. W.K.L.M. Weerasekara said two of the injured are in critical condition, with one patient transferred to the Badulla Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

He added that eight others sustained minor injuries, while the remaining passengers are reported to be in stable condition.
