Twenty-three-year-old Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, bringing glory to Sri Lanka.
The event was held today (1 August) at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow.
Rumesh secured the remarkable victory with a throw of 89.75 metres on his second attempt.
This marks Sri Lanka’s sixth gold medal in the history of the Commonwealth Games. It is also the country’s first Commonwealth Games gold medal in 20 years, since Chinthana Vidanage won gold in weightlifting at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
