Sponsorship Letter mandatory for Taiwanese Nationals seeking Sri Lankan visas
Taiwanese nationals travelling to Sri Lanka on tourist or business visas are now required to submit a sponsorship letter issued by a sponsor in Sri Lanka.
Sources within the Department of Immigration and Emigration said the new requirement was introduced when the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system was updated.
Previously, Taiwanese nationals were not required to submit a letter from a sponsor in Sri Lanka when applying for a Sri Lankan visa.
Meanwhile, Taiwan recently suspended the issuance of tourist visas to Sri Lankan nationals under its new visa policy.
However, immigration authorities said Sri Lanka’s decision was not taken in response to Taiwan’s move, adding that visas would continue to be issued to Taiwanese nationals provided they submit the required sponsorship letter.
Government sources said the decision was prompted by the recent arrests of several Taiwanese nationals during raids on cyber scam networks ope
