Sri Lanka has sent Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvie Salih to Tehran to represent Colombo at the state funeral ceremonies of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Khamenei, 86, was killed in a joint United States-Israeli air strike on his compound in February, ending a 36-year tenure at the head of the Islamic Republic.
Iran began a week of mourning and funeral ceremonies on Friday, with foreign leaders and delegations visiting the site in Tehran where Khamenei’s body is lying in state.

The Chairman of the Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha, Attorney-at-Law Lal Kumarapeli, told ‘Sri Lanka Mirror‘ that a building has been constructed on a plot of land at No. 39/4, Pasan Mawatha, Makola South, which is reportedly owned by the Thilakawardhana Group, without obtaining a permit from the local authority.
However, he revealed that the Urban Development Authority has recommended that the Pradeshiya Sabha approve the relevant land subdivision.
He further stated that complaints had been received regarding the unauthorised construction and that the Pradeshiya Sabha was taking appropriate action in this regard.
When asked whether approval could be granted for the construction and the land subdivision, the Chairman said that no decision had yet been taken on whether approval would be given, as certain issues remained unresolved.
