‘Samithpura Chathu’ handed over to CCD
Organised crime figure Kankanamage Dimuthu Chathuranga Perera, alias ‘Samithapura Chathu’ and ‘Modara Chathu’, has been brought back to Sri Lanka from Oman this morning (Aug. 18).
He was brought from Muscat, Oman, to Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, after being arrested in Oman by a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers.
The individual, who was wanted under an Interpol Red Notice, has been handed over to the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) under tight security for further investigations.
The 38-year-old, a resident of Summitpura, Modara, Colombo 15, had fled to Oman on March 22, 2025, using a forged passport.
He is also a suspect in the ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa’ murder and is wanted in connection with several crimes committed in Sri Lanka.
