5 arrested over murder of Kanjipani Imran’s uncle
Five suspects, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the shooting and killing of 54-year-old Mohamed Azmi Mohideen, who is believed to be the uncle of overseas-based organised crime figure Kanjipani Imran.
The suspects were arrested yesterday (Aug. 17) by officers of the Colombo North Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau, based on a tip-off received during investigations into the killing.
A 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, both residents of Colombo 15, were arrested with 25 g and 840 mg of Crystal Methamphetamine (Ice) and handed over to the Kotahena Police.
The other 03 suspects, aged 19, 25 and 28 and residing in Mattakkuliya, Dompe and Mulleriyawa, were arrested with 12 g and 380 mg of Crystal Methamphetamine and a motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.
The shooting took place at around 1.20 p.m. on Aug. 10.
The victim was shot dead by 02 unidentified gunmen in front of a building materials shop on Sangharaja Mawatha, Colombo 10.
Police said the gunmen had shot the victim in the head and neck before fleeing the scene.
Police suspect that the killing was orchestrated by ‘Kudu Anju’, an organised crime figure currently residing in France, in retaliation for the recent killing of one of his close associates in the Ratmalana area.
