SLVTA marks 31 years with hospital tech support programme (Pics)

A technical support Shramadana programme was successfully conducted today (Aug. 17) at 33 selected hospitals across the country as part of the 31st anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority (SLVTA), in collaboration with the Clean Sri Lanka national programme.

The main programme was held at Castle Street Women’s Hospital in Colombo under the patronage of Deputy Minister Vocational Education Nalin Hewage.

The programme was carried out with the active participation and voluntary contribution of Generation Z and vocational training students. It focused on technical repairs and maintenance within hospital premises, including electrical and plumbing systems, infrastructure improvements and environmental cleaning. A key feature of the initiative was that it went beyond a conventional Shramadana campaign by enabling young people to apply their practical knowledge and skills in electronics, electrical work, plumbing, building maintenance, mechanical work and other technical fields to strengthen the country’s public healthcare system.

The programme was also conducted under the Clean Sri Lanka concept, highlighting the commitment of the younger generation to environmental cleanliness, positive attitudinal change, the protection of public property and sustainable national development. It further demonstrated the role of young people in nation-building not merely as “opportunity seekers”, but as “opportunity creators”.

Clean Sri Lanka Colombo District Coordinator and Member of Parliament Dr Najith Indika, Additional Director General of the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat Kapila Senarath, Director (Social) Chinthaka Rajakaruna, Director (Volunteer Services) H.P.S. Shantha, senior journalist Nishantha Alwis, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority Vijitha Weerathunga, Vice Chairman T. Dharmaraja, Director General Major General Priyantha Weerasinghe (Retd.), Director of Vocational Training Milinda, Director of Career Guidance, Job Placement and Promotion Chandana Vidanapathirana, Assistant Director of the National Vocational Training Institute, Narahenpita, Bhatia Amaranath and Deputy Director of Career Guidance and Promotion Sumith Korala were among those present.
