PUBLIC STATEMENT
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has instituted proceedings before the High Court of Colombo under Case No. HCB 387/25 against a prominent politician. The indictment filed in the said case contains an allegation relating to the crediting of funds into Account No. 027104000818, purportedly maintained in the name of Rithu Akarsha at DFCC Bank. Following the filing of the said indictment, certain mainstream media outlets, social media websites, and other social media accounts have published news reports and other content using my name and photograph, falsely alleging and/or implying that I am connected to the aforesaid transaction.
I hereby categorically and responsibly state that I have never maintained or held any account with DFCC Bank, and that Account No. 027104000818 is not an account belonging to me. In confirmation of the foregoing, a letter issued by DFCC Bank, upon my request, certifying the same is annexed hereto.
Furthermore, I wish to inform you that during the period of 2010–2012 referred to in the indictment, I was a school student.
Accordingly, I have already initiated legal proceedings against the newspaper and media organizations, social media websites, and other social media account holders who have published false, misleading, and/or manipulated news reports and information associating me with, or implying that I am connected to, the aforesaid transaction, thereby causing serious damage to my personal reputation and professional standing.
I further wish to notify that any individual or entity who publishes, republishes, disseminates, or otherwise circulates any false, misleading, manipulated, or fabricated information linking me to the said transaction, or implying that I am connected thereto, thereby causing harm to my reputation and professional standing, shall likewise be subject to appropriate legal action without further notice.
Yours faithfully,
Rithu Akarsha
