Court to decide on Preethi Jayawardena’s bail today
Colombo Additional Magistrate Oshadha Migara Mahaarachchi has ordered yesterday (July 23) that the owner of House of Fashion, a leading ready-made clothing retailer in Colombo, be remanded until today (July 24) following his arrest in connection with a special investigation conducted by Sri Lanka Customs.
The suspect, Jayawardena Mudalige Priyalal Bandula, alias Preethi Jayawardena, of No. 25, Balapokuna Road, Kirulapone, was remanded after being produced before the court in a case filed by Sri Lanka Customs Chief Assistant Preventive Officer A.M.T.B. Adikaram.
The Magistrate stated that the order on whether the suspect would be released on bail would be delivered today.
Appearing for the prosecution, the Customs officer informed the court that an investigation had been launched on April 09, 2026, into imports made by the company associated with House of Fashion, which is owned by the suspect.
However, Customs officials said the suspect suffered a medical issue while being brought before the Magistrate’s Court on July 16 to seek a remand order following his arrest at his residence.
He was subsequently admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo, where he remains under treatment.
