Vehicle used in Dondra shooting, found in Dikwella
Police have found a car suspected to have been linked to a shooting at a house in Matara.
Police suspect the vehicle was used by gunmen who had fled after opening fire at the house located near the Devinuwara Devalaya in Matara.
Police said officers attempted to inspect a suspiciously parked car on New Beliatta Road last night (July 22), but the driver attempted to flee without stopping.
The vehicle later veered off the road and overturned into a roadside drain, following which the driver had escaped on foot, police said.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the vehicle was allegedly the one used in the aforementioned shooting incident.
Earlier yesterday morning, an unidentified group travelling in a car opened fire at a house on Edanda Road in Gandara, Dondra, using a pistol-type firearm before fleeing the scene.
The targeted residence belongs to a person engaged in the fishing industry, police said.
CCTV footage from a nearby camera had captured the suspects arriving in a car, carrying out the shooting before fleeing.
Further investigations are underway.
