2 arrested over Nawagamuwa shooting

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Koratota, Nawagamuwa, on July 16.

The arrests were made yesterday (July 19) by officers of the Homagama Divisional Crime Investigation Unit following intelligence gathered during the investigation.

Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the victim was allegedly murdered over the non-payment of Rs. 1.5 million for a consignment of narcotics obtained from an individual known as “Kung Fu Ruwan”, who is believed to be hiding overseas.

Police said the killing was carried out under a murder contract worth Rs. 800,000.

The motorcycle rider involved in the shooting and another suspect who allegedly assisted in the crime were arrested yesterday.

The motorcycle used in the murder was also seized.

The suspects, aged 21 and 29, are residents of Ranala and Pallama.

Further investigations are underway.
