Lectures of 4 UoC faculties shifted online as 71 students contract Dengue

A total of 71 students of the University of Colombo have contracted dengue fever, while five students are currently receiving treatment after being hospitalized, Vice Chancellor Professor Indika Karunathilake said.

Prof. Karunathilake has further said that in this backdrop the university The University of Colombo has decided to conduct lectures online for four faculties for one week starting today (July 09).

He said the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Education, and Faculty of Management and Finance will conduct their academic activities online and on a hybrid model during the period.

However, he said that the university will not be closed and all staff members are required to report to work as usual, while all university hostels will remain open.

Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Municipal Council, Dr. Sriprathapan, has also stated that no recommendation has been made to close the university.

Meanwhile, the University of the Visual and Performing Arts and the University of Moratuwa have already been temporarily closed following the spread of dengue.
