Negombo Prison clash : death toll rises to 27
Another inmate receiving treatment at the hospital after sustaining injuries during the clash at the Negombo Prison has died, according to reports.
Accordingly, the death toll from the incident has risen to 27.
The deceased include seven prison officers and 20 inmates, while 23 prison officers and 53 inmates are still receiving treatment at hospitals, reports said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Justice and National Integration – Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara, visited the Negombo District General Hospital yesterday (July 06) evening to inquire into the condition of prison officers injured in the clash.
During the visit, the Minister discussed with doctors and hospital staff the treatment being provided to the injured officers and the facilities required for their recovery.
