Six major political parties representing the Tamil and Muslim communities in Sri Lanka have reportedly convened a special meeting in Colombo tomorrow (13) to discuss common objectives and the current political situation.

According to an official media statement issued by the office of Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) leader and Member of Parliament Mano Ganesan, arrangements have been made to hold the crucial talks at 1.00 p.m. tomorrow at the Renuka Hotel in Colombo.

The All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC – Rishad Bathiudeen faction), Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC – Jeevan Thondaman faction), Democratic Tamil National Alliance (DTNA), Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK – Sivagnanam Shritharan faction), Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC – Rauff Hakeem faction) and the Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA – Mano Ganesan faction) are scheduled to come together for talks.

Ambalangoda Pradeshiya Sabha member of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), Amitha Chathuranga, alias ‘Batapola Nindane Chutte’, who was arrested for possessing a firearm, has been remanded until tomorrow.

He was remanded after being produced before the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court today (12).

The councillor was arrested yesterday afternoon, and an unlicensed repeater-type firearm was also found in his possession.

The raid was carried out by officers of the Galle District Crime Division.

The National Dengue Control Unit says a special mosquito control programme covering 60 high-risk dengue zones will be launched tomorrow (13).

The areas include 23 high-risk dengue zones in the Western Province.

Dengue control programmes have been under way in these 23 zones alone since last Sunday.

The programmes are being carried out in coordination with the Clean Sri Lanka programme on behalf of the Presidential Secretariat.

A total of 67,143 dengue cases have been reported so far this year.

The dengue death toll stands at 47.

The National Dengue Control Unit says a special mosquito control programme covering 60 high-risk dengue zones will be launched tomorrow (13).

The areas include 23 high-risk dengue zones in the Western Province.
