Anti-corruption campaigner Nihal Sri Ameresekere passes away
Mr Nihal Sri Ameresekere, one of Sri Lanka’s leading anti-corruption campaigners, a Chartered Accountant, and a public interest litigant who filed numerous cases before the courts in the public interest, has passed away.
His funeral will take place on Saturday, 4 July, at 1.30 p.m. at the General Cemetery, Borella.
His remains will lie in state for members of the public to pay their respects at The Respect (Jayaratne Funeral Parlour) in Borella, from 9.00 a.m. on Friday, 3 July, until 1.00 p.m. on Saturday, 4 July.
Born on 16 July 1947 in Kandy, Mr Ameresekere was an alumnus of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia. He was a Chartered Accountant and an internationally recognised specialist in fraud investigation.
During the administration of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, he served as Chairman of the Public Enterprises Reform Commission (PERC).

Dengue cases surpass 56,000
A total of 56,422 dengue cases have been reported in Sri Lanka so far this year, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.
Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr Kapila Kannangara, disclosed the figures while speaking to the media.
He said that 35 people have died from dengue so far this year.
Meanwhile, 1,025 dengue cases were reported during the past 24 hours alone, with the highest number of infections recorded in the Western Province.
